Southern Technical College–Orlando to Host Workforce Infrastructure and Regional Economic Competitiveness Roundtable with Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins

Southern Technical College–Orlando is proud to host the Honorable Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins for a high-impact campus visit and private executive roundtable focused on strengthening Central Florida’s workforce infrastructure and supporting long-term regional economic competitiveness.

The visit will highlight Southern Technical College’s hands-on training programs, employer-connected education, student success, and role in preparing skilled graduates for high-demand career pathways. The event will begin with a tour of the College’s welding training facility, where students and instructors will showcase technical skills connected to regional workforce needs.

Following the welding facility tour, the Lieutenant Governor will visit Southern Technical College–Orlando’s main campus for a meet-and-speak session with students, instructors, National Honor Society members, and veterans. 

The visit will conclude with a private executive roundtable featuring industry and community partners focused on Central Florida’s workforce and economic future.

The roundtable, focused on Workforce Infrastructure and Regional Economic Competitiveness, will explore how Central Florida can better align talent development, education, workforce systems, employer demand, and economic development priorities.

Key topics will include technical training, talent pipelines, apprenticeships, internships, career-connected learning, and workforce needs in high-growth sectors including construction, healthcare, trades, manufacturing, and technical fields.

As Central Florida continues to grow, workforce infrastructure remains a critical part of regional competitiveness.
