Southern Technical College Student Honored by County Chairwoman for Lifesaving Heroism
Kissimmee, FL – (Feb. 9, 2016) – Student Sara Santiago of St. Cloud, who studies medical assisting at the Orlando campus of Southern Technical College, “Southern Tech,” was awarded a certificate of commendation today for her quick actions last fall to help a citizen in need of medical assistance.

Santiago was a passenger on the Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority (LYNX) Route 10 bus in October of last year, when she noticed a man having difficulty breathing and complaining of chest pain. She was able to provide assistance to the man and keep him comfortable and conscious until paramedics arrived.
“We are so glad you were there and took such quick action,” Chairwoman Janer, who also serves as Vice Chair of LYNX, said as she awarded the certificate to Santiago.
Santiago had just learned CPR skills and had her medical supplies handy when she calmly assisted during the incident. She hopes to continue helping others once she graduates, which is scheduled for September.
